Keya was like a breath of fresh air in my otherwise monotonous life. I had a smile on my face every time I talked to her. There was never a dull moment with her. Usually guys are supposed to be Funny. But it was the other way around. I logged in on facebook. I opened her profile. I clicked on her profile picture. The sight was just so pleasant.
Fairly long hair. They rested on her shoulders on both sides. Almond shaped, mischievous eyes. Fluffy cheeks. Smile that stretched wide across her face. Her features were sharp. Kind of short, just 5'4. (I couldn't have known that via facebook. She told me that). She had just broken up. She used to talk about it a lot and it used to drive me crazy. But I consoled her. I was always there for her, whenever she used to feel low. She used to call me up whenever she went out. She used to whistle and call out her friends in the colony. (She was different. Maybe now you guys agree with me. How many girls knew how to whistle aloud?)
We became best of friends. I even went up to Mumbai just to meet her. I was pretty nervous before meeting her up. We decided to meet on Mira Road Station. I reached early. I got a Cadbury Bournville and a Temptation. I texted her asking where the hell she was. She replied, "On the train that just stopped on the platform". I anxiously started looking for her. She had texted me earlier that she wore jeans and brown t-shirt. I saw a hand rise from the crowd that was rushing out of the station and waving at me. I saw her. Just as mesmerizing as in her profile picture, only a lot cuter. She was just like a small baby. I gave her the Chocolates. She hugged me. Best hug ever. We talked for a bit and then she had to leave. She left. But she left leaving a smile on my face.
I left for Baroda the next day. I was back in my shitty life. I was frustrated with studies. The only good thing about my life at this time was Keya. Her constant text messages, random phone calls, long everlasting facebook chats. That made my day. I was kind of used to having her around. We were close friends now. Especially after I had specially gone down to Mumbai just to meet her. We flirted a lot. All my friends were looking at me with suspicious eyes. Who is keya ? what is going on between the two of you ? I cannot blame them for thinking that there was something fishy. We used to flirt in public, on my facebook page.
One day I finally asked her out. She said that it would be impossible to sustain long distance relationship. I tried to persuade her. I asked for just one chance. She agreed. We were dating. But it was an awkward situation. Long distance dating ? This was first. I made about 2-3 visits to Mumbai in that period. I was extremely happy. She was with me. I never wanted to let her go. I wished to move to Mumbai once I was done with my studies. But my happiness didn't last long.
That day I got her text. Call me asap. I need to talk to you about something. I called up as soon as I checked it. She told me that some guy from her college had asked her out. She liked him. She had asked for some time. I wonder why she was telling me all that ? I was confused. Why the fuck has she asked for some time ? She is with me. Was she serious ? As it turns out, I was just her rebound.
I never told her that I had serious feelings for her. I just pretended to be happy that the guy she liked had asked her out. I supported her. She was one of my best friend. I couldn't afford to lose her. I wished she got serious about me. But I guess it was way too late.
We are still the best of friends. I am going to Mumbai again on 14th July. Hoping to meet her. Life is Unfair. If it was fair, It wouldn't be called LIFE.
